Relationship anarchy rejects the idea that romantic relationships automatically outrank friendships or other connections — no default hierarchy, no relationship escalator, each connection defined on its own terms. It overlaps with polyamory but isn't the same thing; some relationship anarchists are monogamous, they've just thrown out the rulebook about what a relationship is supposed to look like.
